Si San Pedro ba ay nakarating sa Rome? BY Lay-Person Scripturist

 

Nakarating ba si St. Peter sa Rome? Ito ang isa sa mga tanong ng mga kapatid nating tumutuligsa sa pananampalatayang katoliko para pabulaanan na si St. Peter ay ang unang Pope.

Ilang beses na po nating sinagot ang tanong na ito at ginagamit natin ang 1 Peter 5:13.

“The church in Babylon, also chosen, sends you greetings, as does Mark, my son.”
(1 Peter 5:13)

Marami ng sanggunian ang nagpapatotoo sa nauunang kasanayan na gamitin ang “Babylon” bilang kodigo para sa Roma.

Hayaan ninyo ako na banggitin ang ilan dito.

Napagkasunduan na ang Babylon sa Unang Aklat ni Pedro na ang “Babylon” ay isang sero para sa lungsod ng Roma.

Ang dakilang lungsod ng Mesopotamia ay wala na sa unang siglo. Si Diodorus ng Sicily (56-36 BCE) ay isinulat na, “ para sa mga palasyo at mga gusali, panahon na din ang nagdulot ng kanilang pagkasira; sa katunayan, ang Babylon ay isang maliit na bahagi at kaunti lamang ang nakatira. Karamihan sa lupa ay naisalin na para sa agrikultura.

“(2.9.9) Strabo, na namatay noong 19 CE, ay isinulat: “Ang malaking bahagi ng Babylon ay walang katao-tao na walang magkakamaling sabihin na ang malaking lungsod ay isang desyerto. Walang ibang simbahan maliban sa Roma ang puwedeng masabing ang huling hantungan ni Pedro.”(Geography 16.1.5)

The Sibylline Oracles (5.143-168; 5.434), the Apocalypse of Baruch (10:1-3; 11:1; 67:7), 4 Ezra (3:1, 28, 31), and Revelation (14:8; 16:19; 17:5; 18:2-21) ay tinatawag ang Roma na Babylon.

May dahilan na pagdugtungin ang imperyo ng Babylon at Roma. Ayon kay Norman Perrin, ang Roma ay tinatawag na Babylon sapagka’t ang mga puwersa nila katulad ng Babylon, sa higit na maagang panahon ay winasak ang templo at Herusalem.

Matapos ang 70 CE ang Babylon ay ginamit na pangalan para sa Roma (cf. Rev. 14.8; 16.19; 17.5; 18.2, 20, 21), isang maliwang na hudyat para sa mga nagbabasa. Ang “Babylon” sa Rev. 14:8, 16:19, 17:5; 18:2 at maari na din sa 1 Peter 5:13 ay nagsasabi na ang Roma ay ang lungsod ng Roma ay ang nagpakita ng paniniwala sa mga Kristiyano.

Pope names six new non-European cardinals

Pope Benedict XVI on Saturday consecrated six non-European prelates as new members of the College of Cardinals in a development welcomed by critics concerned that the body which will elect the future pope is too Euro-centric.

The elite body "presents a variety of faces, because it expresses the face of the universal Church," the 85-year-old pontiff said during the ceremony -- called a consistory -- in St Peter's Basilica.

"In this consistory, I want to highlight ... that the Church is the Church of all peoples," he said.

The solemn ceremony saw the new "princes of the Church" receive gold rings and birettas -- their scarlet colour signifying the blood of martyrs, or those willing to die for their faith -- while kneeling before the pontiff.

The pope drew criticism in February, at the height of the "Vatileaks" scandal, when he created 22 new cardinals of whom 16 hailed from Europe.

Benedict, who was elected pope in 2005, is a respected theologian often seen as hewing closely to a traditionalist line who has championed Christianity's European roots on countless occasions.

Saturday's new cardinals come from Colombia, India, Lebanon, Nigeria, the Philippines and the United States and join the elite body that advises the pope and elects his successor upon his death.

They are American James Michael Harvey, Lebanon's Bechara Boutros al-Rahi, India's Baselios Cleemis Thottunkal, John Onaiyekan of Nigeria, Colombian Ruben Salazar Gomez and Luis Antonio Tagle of the Philippines.

Announcing the names of the new cardinals last month, Benedict told bishops that he wanted to show that "the Church belongs to all peoples, speaks all languages."

Saturday's consistory, Benedict's fifth, follows the death of several cardinals in recent months and will bring the number of those eligible to vote back up to the maximum of 120.

Cardinals must be under 80 years old to take part in a papal election although they can stay on as non-voting cardinals after they reach that threshold.

There are now 62 European cardinals eligible to vote compared with 67 in February, as well as 14 North Americans, 21 South Americans, 11 Africans and 11 Asians.

Harvey, 63, who hails from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, has been the prefect of the pontifical household since 1998. The best known of the new cardinals has been made the archpriest of the Basilica of St Paul's Outside the Walls, one of Rome's most prominent basilicas.

Another of the new cardinals, Manila Archbishop Tagle, at age 55 is viewed as a possible candidate to succeed Benedict.

The last to receive his biretta on Saturday, Tagle was visibly moved, wiping away tears after a long tete-a-tete with the pope, to applause from the congregants.

Rahi, 72, became the second Maronite cardinal alongside Monsignor Nasrallah Sfeir, also of Lebanon. Rahi has frequently warned over the rise of Islamism, and his elevation is seen as a gesture towards a multi-faith Lebanon at a time when the country is threatened by the conflict in neighbouring Syria.

Trivandrum Archbishop Thottunkal of India became the youngest member of the College of Cardinals at age 53. His elevation was seen as a bid to encourage India's old but dynamic Church, little known in the West.

As for the 68-year-old Onaiyekan of Nigeria, archbishop of Abuja, he is another "papabile", or potential pope, who has shown courage in the face of inter-faith hatred at a time when his country faces attacks against Christians by the Islamist sect Boko Haram.

Another man of peace is 70-year-old Gomez of Bogota, who has fought tirelessly for national reconciliation with Colombia's FARC rebels.

At the end of the day, Danny is completely convinced and he decided to leave the religion he founded.

And I realized, to be fully humble, you must let yourself be subjected to the truth. Pastors like me then tend to cover up what is false in us by projecting ourselves boldly, while in the Catholic Church, you had no sense to push yourself up, for the truth is in this Church, and sooner and later a God will be there to judge you to reward or punish you. Sooner or later, you will be found in the same place of truth, everyone of us in this Church, and you will be judged on how you used yourself for the service of the truth."

Defense On the Immaculate Conception of Mary

One of the most worst attacks of the anti-Catholics was against the Mother of God which is the Blessed Virgin Mary. I would like to expose the exaggerations and wrong exposition of the anti-Catholics towards the Blessed Virgin Mary.

About the Immaculate Conception

This dogma was officially defined by His Holiness Pope Pius IX in his Bull Ineffabilis Deus  dated on December 8, 1854 which says:

 “We declare, pronounce and define that the doctrine which holds that the Blessed Virgin Mary, at the first instant of her conception, by a singular privilege and grace of the Omnipotent God, in virtue of the merits of Jesus Christ, the Saviour of mankind, was preserved immaculate from all stain of original sin, has been revealed by God, and therefore should firmly and constantly be believed by all the faithful”.

The anti-Catholics thought the the whole dogma was an invention of the Catholic Church and is unbiblical they even used these verses to oppose the dogma and to invalidate that Mary was not sinless:

 Romans 3:23- which says that all have sinned and that no one was exempted from it.

 Luke 1:46-48- that Mary needed a Savior as she said in the Magnificat, meaning that she was like one of us who is a sinner.

By using these verses they tried hard to debunk the dogma of the Immaculate Conception, their argument dwells only on these arguments, but if we look around at the Bible the dogma of the Immaculate Conception was really in the Bible and Christ gave us a logical explanation concerning it.

In the book of Genesis it says:

         “I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; He will strike at your head, while you strike at his heel.” (Genesis 3:15)

Reading upon the anti-catholic’s interpretation of this verse, they focused more on the two last stanza  rather than on the whole, if we try to look at the whole verse, we can logically noticed, that yes in the end, Christ or the messiah would be the one the crush the serpent’s head, but they forgot the first two lines which says ‘I will put enmity between you and the woman’.  If we try to read the whole verse again and again, it was the Mother and Child who would be a great threat to the serpent, the Mother cooperated with her son. God has already planned that the woman would be a threat to the serpent because the offspring that she will bear would be the one to defeat and crush the serpent’s head. This woman cannot be Eve, since the first Eve listened and obeyed the serpent which made him a slave of the serpent which is sin, it cannot be Israel, since there are a lot of verses saying that Israel became unfaithful and it cannot be the Church since the Church was the bride of the messiah, there is no other person in the Bible which bears the Son of God other than the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Our Lord Jesus Christ gave us a logical explanation why the mother of the messiah cannot be a slave of sin, because a kingdom divided against itself cannot stand, Jesus said:

“How can Satan drive out Satan? If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand. And if Satan has risen against himself and is divided, he cannot stand; that is the end of him.” (Mark 3:23-26)

In other words, if Satan will contradict himself and handed over his servant or slave to his enemy to defeat him, then he cannot stand, he will fall, since he tolerated rebellion in his own kingdom. This woman who will be an enemy to the serpent should and must be different from the first woman in the garden who listened to the serpent and gave herself into sin. If Mary was conceived with original sin, then how can she be an enemy of the devil, how can she be a threat to him and she will not be different from the first woman, since both of them would be serving one master and that is the devil. This verse in the book of Mark is already a logical explanation why Mary was Immaculate. Yes, Mary needed a savior because she cannot be immaculate without God’s intervention, meaning that God had already saved her from sin at the first instant of his conception. Romans 3:23 is not an valid excuse for non-Catholics to force Catholics that the Immaculate Conception is absurd, since it was Christ himself who gave us the explanation. And isn’t it been figured out in the book of Revelation, a sign wherein, the woman will give birth to a child whom the dragon hated. It is written:

 “A great sign appeared in the sky, a woman clothed with the sun, with moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. She was with child and wailed aloud in pain as she labored to give birth.” (Revelation 12:1-2)

“Then the dragon stood before the woman about to give birth, to devour her child when she gave birth. She gave birth to a son, a male child, destined to rule all nations with an iron rod.” (Revelation 12:4-5)

 “When the dragon saw that it had been thrown down to the earth, it pursued the woman who had given birth to the male child.” (Revelation 12:13)

 “The dragon became angry with the woman and went off to wage war against the rest of her offspring, those who keep God’s commandments and bear witness to Jesus.” (Revelation 12:17)

If we notice the verses from Genesis and from the book of Revelation, we can see the repetition and similarity of the two verses, since the book of revelation emphasized the fulfillment of what  was been said by God in book of Genesis to the serpent. If Mary would  be conceived with sin, then the dragon must not be angry with her since she was his servant. It is absurd to think that a person who will crush the head of the serpent which is Christ, the messiah, the Savior would be born from one of the slave of satan and sin, which contradicts God’s promise in Genesis and its prefiguration in the Book of Revelation. Since Christ is the New Adam which is different from the old Adam  therefore the woman who bore her cannot be the same woman as Eve, since Eve became a slave of sin after she listened to the serpent. Meaning both mother and son should be in enmity with the evil one and that is the logic why the Immaculate Conception is Biblical.

 In other words, God cannot contradict himself in using a servant of Satan in order to defeat Satan, that would be contradicting his statement to the devil in the book of Genesis when he put enmity between the serpent and the woman.
