The Iglesia ni Cristo, the True Church???

The
Iglesia ni Cristo (Tagalog, "Church of Christ") claims to be the true
Church established by Christ. Felix Manalo, its founder, proclaimed
himself God’s prophet. Many tiny sects today claim to be the true
Church, and many individuals claim to be God’s prophet. What makes
Iglesia ni Cristo different is that it is not as tiny as others.
Since it was founded in the Philippines in 1914, it has grown to more than two hundred congregations in sixty-seven countries outside the Philippines, including an expanding United States contingent. The Iglesia keeps the exact number of members secret, but it is estimated to be between three million and ten million worldwide. It is larger than the Jehovah’s Witnesses, a better known sect (which also claims to be Christ’s true Church). Iglesia is not better known, despite its numbers, because the majority of Iglesia’s members are Filipino. Virtually the only exceptions are a few non-Filipinos who have married into Iglesia families.
The organization publishes two magazines, Pasugo and God’s Message, which devote most of their energies toward condemning other Christian churches, especially the Catholic Church. The majority of the Iglesia’s members are ex-Catholics. The Philippines is the only dominantly Catholic nation in the Far East, with eighty-four percent of its population belonging to the Church. Since this is its largest potential source of converts, Iglesia relies on anti-Catholic scare tactics as support for its own doctrines, which cannot withstand biblical scrutiny. The Iglesia tries to convince people of its doctrines not by proving they are right, but by attempting to prove the Catholic Church’s teachings are wrong.

Is Christ God?
The Catholic teaching that most draws Iglesia’s fire is Christ’s divinity. Like the Jehovah’s Witnesses, Iglesia claims that Jesus Christ is not God but a created being.
Yet the Bible is clear: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God" (John 1:1). We know Jesus is the Word because John 1:14 tells us, "The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us." God the Father was not made flesh; it was Jesus, as even Iglesia admits. Jesus is the Word, the Word is God, therefore Jesus is God. Simple, yet Iglesia won’t accept it.
In Deuteronomy 10:17 and 1 Timothy 6:15, God the Father is called the "Lord of lords," yet in other New Testament passages this divine title is applied directly to Jesus. In Revelation 17:14 we read, "They will make war on the Lamb, and the Lamb will conquer them, for he is Lord of lords and King of kings." And in Revelation 19:13–16, John sees Jesus "clad in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God. . . . On his thigh he has a name inscribed, King of kings and Lord of lords."
The fact that Jesus is God is indicated in numerous places in the New Testament. John 5:18 states that Jewish leaders sought to kill Jesus "because he not only broke the Sabbath but also called God his Father, making himself equal with God." Paul also states that Jesus was equal with God (Phil. 2:6). But if Jesus is equal with the Father, and the Father is a God, then Jesus is a God. Since there is only one God, Jesus and the Father must both be one God—one God in at least two persons (the Holy Spirit, of course, is the third person of the Trinity).
The same is shown in John 8:56–59, where Jesus directly claims to be Yahweh ("I AM"). "‘Your father Abraham rejoiced that he was to see my day; he saw it and was glad.’ The Jews then said to him, ‘You are not yet fifty years old, and you have seen Abraham?’ Jesus said to them, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.’ So they took up stones to throw at him; but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple." Jesus’ audience understood exactly what he was claiming; that is why they picked up rocks to stone him. They considered him to be b.aspheming God by claiming to be Yahweh.
The same truth is emphasized elsewhere. Paul stated that we are to live "awaiting our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ" (Titus 2:13). And Peter addressed his second epistle to "those who have obtained a faith of equal standing with ours in the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ" (2 Pet. 1:1).
Jesus is shown to be God most dramatically when Thomas, finally convinced that Jesus has risen, falls down and exclaims, "My Lord and my God!" (John 20:28)—an event many in Iglesia have difficulty dealing with. When confronted with this passage in a debate with Catholic Answers founder Karl Keating, Iglesia apologist Jose Ventilacion replied with a straight face, "Thomas was wrong."
God’s Messenger?

A litmus test for any religious group is the credibility of its founder in making his claims. Felix Manalo’s credibility and, consequently, his claims, are impossible to take seriously. He claimed to be "God’s messenger," divinely chosen to re-establish the true Church which, according to Manalo, disappeared in the first century due to apostasy. It was his role to restore numerous doctrines that the Church had abandoned. A quick look at Manalo’s background shows where these doctrines came from: Manalo stole them from other quasi-Christian religious sects.
Manalo was baptized a Catholic, but he left the Church as a teen. He became a Protestant, going through five different denominations, including the Seventh-Day Adventists. Finally, Manalo started his own church in 1914. In 1919, he left the Philippines because he wanted to learn more about religion. He came to America, to study with Protestants, whom Iglesia would later declare to be apostates, just like Catholics. Why, five years after being called by God to be his "last messenger," did Manalo go to the U.S. to learn from apostates? What could God’s messenger learn from a group that, according to Iglesia, had departed from the true faith?
The explanation is that, contrary to his later claims, Manalo did not believe himself to be God’s final messenger in 1914. He didn’t use the last messenger doctrine until 1922. He appears to have adopted the messenger doctrine in response to a schism in the Iglesia movement. The schism was led by Teogilo Ora, one of its early ministers. Manalo appears to have developed the messenger doctrine to accumulate power and re-assert his leadership in the church.
This poses a problem for Iglesia, because if Manalo had been the new messenger called by God in 1914, why didn’t he tell anybody prior to 1922? Because he didn’t think of it until 1922. His situation in this respect parallels that of Mormonism’s founder Joseph Smith, who claimed that when he was a boy, God appeared to him in a vision and told him all existing churches were corrupt and he was not to join them, that he would lead a movement to restore God’s true Church. But historical records show that Smith did join an inquirer’s class at an established Protestant church after his supposed vision from God. It was only in later years that Smith came up with his version of the "true messenger" doctrine, proving as much of an embarrassment for the Mormon church as Manalo’s similar doctrine does for Iglesia.
Iglesia Prophesied?
A pillar of Iglesia belief is that its emergence in the Philippines was prophesied in the Bible. This idea is supposedly found in Isaiah 43:5–6, which states, "Fear not, for I am with you; I will bring your offspring from the east, and from the west I will gather you; I will say to the north, ‘Give up,’ and the south, ‘Do not withhold; bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the end of the earth.’"
Iglesia argues that in this verse, Isaiah is referring to the "far east" and that this is the place where the "Church of Christ" will emerge in the last days. This point is constantly repeated in Iglesia literature: "The prophecy stated that God’s children shall come from the far east" (Pasugo, March 1975, 6).
But the phrase "far east" is not in the text. In fact, in the Tagalog (Filipino) translation, as well as in the original Hebrew, the words "far" and "east" are not even found in the same verse, yet the Iglesia recklessly combine the two verses to translate "far east." Using this fallacious technique, Iglesia claims that the far east refers to the Philippines.
Iglesia is so determined to convince its followers of this "fact" that it quotes Isaiah 43:5 from an inexact paraphrase by Protestant Bible scholar James Moffatt that reads, "From the far east will I bring your offspring." Citing this mistranslation, one Iglesia work states, "Is it not clear that you can read the words ‘far east’? Clear! Why does not the Tagalog Bible show them? That is not our fault, but that of those who translated the Tagalog Bible from English—the Catholics and Protestants" (Isang Pagbubunyag Sa Iglesia ni Cristo, 1964:131). The Iglesia accuses everyone else of mistranslating the Bible, when it is Iglesia that is taking liberties with the original language.
The Name Game
Iglesia points to its name as proof it is the true Church. They argue, "What is the name of Christ’s Church, as given in the Bible? It is the ‘Church of Christ.’ Our church is called the ‘Church of Christ.’ Therefore, ours is the Church Christ founded."
Whether or not the exact words "Church of Christ" appear in the Bible is irrelevant, but since Iglesia makes it an issue, it is important to note that the phrase "Church of Christ" never once appears in the Bible.
The verse Iglesia most often quotes on this issue is Romans 16:16: "Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the churches of Christ greet you " (Pasugo, November 1973, 6). But the phrase in this verse is "churches of Christ." And it’s not a technical name. Paul is referring to a collection of local churches, not giving an organizational name.
To get further "proof" of its name, Iglesia cites Acts 20:28: "Take heed therefore . . . to feed the church of Christ which he has purchased with his blood" (Lamsa translation; cited in Pasugo, April 1978). But the Lamsa translation is not based on the original Greek, the language in which the book of Acts was written. In Greek, the phrase is "the church of God" (tan ekklasian tou Theou) not "the church of Christ" (tan ekklasian tou Christou). Iglesia knows this, yet it continues to mislead its members.
Even if the phrase "church of Christ" did appear in the Bible, it would not help Iglesia’s case. Before Manalo started his church, there were already groups calling themselves "the Church of Christ." There are several Protestant denominations that call themselves Church of Christ and use exactly the same argument. Of course, they aren’t the true Church for the same reason Iglesia isn’t—because they were not founded by Christ.
Did Christ’s Church Apostatize?
The doctrines upon which all Iglesia’s other doctrines depend is its teaching that Christ’s Church apostatized in the early centuries. Like Mormonism, the Jehovah’s Witnesses, and other fringe groups, Iglesia asserts that the early Christian Church suffered a total apostasy. It believes in "the complete disappearance of the first-century Church of Christ and the emergence of the Catholic Church" (Pasugo, July-Aug. 1979, 8).
But Jesus promised that his Church would never apostatize. He told Peter, "And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of hell will not prevail against it" (Matt. 16:18). If his Church had apostatized, then the gates of hell would have prevailed against it, making Christ a liar.
In other passages, Christ teaches the same truth. In Matthew 28:20 he said, "I am with you always even until the end of the world." And in John 14:16, 18 he said, "And I will pray to the Father, and he will give you another Counselor, to be with you forever ... I will not leave you desolate."
If Iglesia members accept the apostasy doctrine, they make Christ a liar. Since they believe Jesus Christ is not a liar, they are ignoring what Christ promised, and their doctrine contradicts Scripture.
They are, however, fulfilling Scripture. While Jesus taught that his Church would never apostatize, the Bible does teach that there will be a great apostasy, or falling away from the Church. Paul prophesies: "[Do not] be quickly shaken in mind or excited . . . to the effect that the day of the Lord has come. Let no one deceive you in any way; for that day will not come, unless the rebellion [Greek: apostasia] comes first" (2 Thess. 2:2–3); "Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by giving heed to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons" (1 Tim. 4:1); and, "For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own liking, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander into myths" (2 Tim. 4:3–4). By falling away from the Church, members of Iglesia are committing precisely the kind of apostasy of which they accuse the Catholic Church.
The Bible tells us in 1 John 4:1: "Do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are of God; for many false prophets have gone out into the world." Was Felix Manalo a true prophet? Is his church the "true Church?" If we test the claims of Iglesia ni Cristo, the answer is apparent. His total apostasy doctrine is in flat contradiction to Christ’s teaching. There is no way that Iglesia ni Cristo can be the true Church of Christ.

SI MARIA, BILANG "INA NG DIOS"
Isa sa dogma ng Iglesia Katolika ang titulo nito para kay Maria na "Ina ng makapangyarihang Diyos" o "Ina ng Dios". Subalit, marami pa ring sekta-protestante ang naliligaw at tumutuligsa sa simbahan dahil hindi daw dapat tawaging "Ina ng Dios" si Maria sapagkat ang anak niyang si Jesucristo ay tao lang daw...

Sa mga nauna kong post dito sa aking blog ay napatunayan na nating si Cristo ay tunay na Dios (1 Juan 5:20), ang Salita ng Dios ( Juan 1:1) at ang Dios na nagkatawang-tao (Juan 1:14, Phil 2:5-8)... Atin namang busisiin ngayon kung bakit tinawag ng Iglesia Katolika na "Ina ng Dios" o sa Ingles, "Mother of God" ang ating Ina na si Maria.
Sa hula ng pagsilang ni Cristo sa Lumang Tipan ng Biblia, sinabi ni Isaias sa 7:14:
"Kaya't ang Panginoon nga ay magbibigay sa inyo ng tanda; narito, isang
dalaga ay maglilihi, at manganganak ng isang lalake, at tatawagin ang
kaniyang pangalan na Emmanuel."
Nangyari nga ito at ito naman ang nakasaad sa Bagong Tipan (Mateo 1:21-23)
"At siya'y manganganak ng isang lalake; at ang pangalang itatawag mo sa kaniya'y JESUS; sapagka't ililigtas niya ang kaniyang bayan sa kanilang mga kasalanan. At nangyari nga ang lahat ng ito, upang maganap ang sinalita ng Panginoon sa pamamagitan ng propeta, na nagsasabi,
Narito, ang dalaga'y magdadalang-tao at manganganak ng isang lalake, At ang pangalang itatawag nila sa kaniya ay Emmanuel; na kung liliwanagin, ay sumasa atin ang Dios."
Ang ibig sabihin ng Emmanuel ay sumasaatin o kasama natin ang Diyos.Sinabi rin sa Isaias na ang ipanganganak ng isang dalaga ay tatawaginhg Makapangyarihang Dios, Prinsipe ng Kapayapaan... (9:6)

Sino ba ang ipinanganak ni Maria? Ang ating Panginoon na si Hesucristo...
Ang tanong: Nang ipaglihi ba ni Maria si Cristo, si Cristo ay tao lang ba?
Hindi po, nang siya ay magkatawang-tao, na kay Hesucristo pa rin po ang pagka-Diyos (Colossas 2:9). Ginusto rin ng Dios Ama na manatili kay Cristo ang kapuspusan ng pagka-Dios ( Colossas 1:19).
Sa buod ng pagiging "Ina ng Dios" ni Maria, siya ay binigyan ng pagkakilala na ito sa kadahilanang ang kanyang ipinaglihi na si Hesus ay Dios na totoo at taong totoo.
Mga kapatid, ang dogmang ito na hindi pinaniniwalaan ng mga sekta-protestante ay matagal nang ipinagtibay ng Simbahang Katolika. Hindi po, nang siya ay magkatawang-tao, na kay Hesucristo pa rin po ang pagka-Diyos (Colossas 2:9). Ginusto rin ng Dios Ama na manatili kay Cristo ang kapuspusan ng pagka-Dios ( Colossas 1:19).
Sa buod ng pagiging "Ina ng Dios" ni Maria, siya ay binigyan ng pagkakilala na ito sa kadahilanang ang kanyang ipinaglihi na si Hesus ay Dios na totoo at taong totoo.
Mga kapatid, ang dogmang ito na hindi pinaniniwalaan ng mga sekta-protestante ay matagal nang ipinagtibay ng Simbahang Katolika. SI CRISTO AY TUNAY NA DIOS! BIBLIA ANG MAGPAPATUNAY!
Si Cristo ay tunay na Dios. Biblia ang magpapatunay dito:
"At nalalaman natin na naparito ang Anak ng Dios, at tayo'y binigyan ng
pagkaunawa, upang ating makilala siya na totoo, at tayo'y nasa kaniya na
totoo, sa makatuwid ay sa kaniyang Anak na si Jesucristo. Ito ang tunay
na Dios, at ang buhay na walang hanggan." (1 Juan 5:20)
Ano namang "buhay" ang tinutukoy sa 1 Juan 5:20? Ito naman ang sagot:
"Nang pasimula siya ang Verbo, at ang Verbo ay sumasa Dios, at ang Verbo ay Dios. Ito rin nang pasimula'y sumasa Dios. Ang lahat ng mga bagay ay ginawa sa pamamagitan niya; at alin man sa lahat ng ginawa ay hindi ginawa kung wala siya.
Nasa kaniya ang buhay; at ang buhay ay siyang ilaw ng mga tao. At ang ilaw ay lumiliwanag sa kadiliman; at ito'y hindi napagunawa ng kadiliman" (Juan 1:1-5)
Malinaw sa dalawang talata na si Cristo ay Dios at tunay na Dios. Ngunit, ibig sabihin ba nuon ay dalawa na ang Dios? Hindi. Dahil si Cristo at ang Ama ay iisa sa pagka-Diyos. (Juan 10:30). Dalawa sila pero iisa sa pagka-Diyos. Ano naman ang dapat itawag sa mga taong hindi naniniwala na si Cristo ay Dios na nagkatawang-tao?
SAGOT:
"Sapagka't maraming magdaraya na nangagsilitaw sa sanglibutan, sa
makatuwid ay ang mga hindi nangagpapahayag na si Jesucristo ay
napariritong nasa laman. Ito ang magdaraya at ang anticristo." (2 Juan 1:7)

To
begin with, have you read what Christ said in Matt.13:10-11?
Now
let us check those who have been given the knowledge to understand the mystery
of the Kingdom of
Heaven to those who are
not.
I. That Christ Never
Claimed to Be God.
This
statement is totally wrong, That is to say Christ claimed he was.
(a) He claimed that
he is the Lord of the Sabbath.
[Deuteronomy 5:12] - "Observe
the Sabbath day to keep it holy, as the Lord your
God commanded you."
[Leviticus 26:2] - "You shall keep My
Sabbaths and reverence My sanctuary; I am the Lord."
Christ said he is the Lord of the Sabbath, an undoubted proof that he claimed
to be divine:
[Matthew 12:8] – “For the Son of Man is Lord
of the Sabbath."
He
even testified that the Sabbath was
established by God only for man [Mark 2:27]
[John 5:18] For this cause therefore the Jews sought all the more to
kill him, because he not only broke the Sabbath, but also called God his own
Father, making himself equal with God.
(b) He claimed that
he and God the Father are ONE
[John 10:29-30] My Father, who has
given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my
Father's hand. I and the Father are one."
Christ claimed: “I and the Father are one.” If I said: “I, c.pio, and the
Father are one” you would surely be scandalized. Once again we have Christ
claiming his deity by making a statement that a mere rational mortal could
never utter.
(c) He claimed the
name of God “I AM”
In Exodus 3:13-14,
Moses was at the burning bush and he asked God what His name was. God
replied, "I AM WHO I AM";
and He said, "Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you."
But Christ said:
[John 8:58] “before Abraham was
born, I AM”
The
Jewish leaders gathered around listening to Jesus knew exactly what He meant; they
picked up stones to kill Him. He was claiming to be the great I AM and they
understood that.
Seven
times in the Gospel of John Jesus claims to be the great “I am” [John 4:26;
6:20; 8:24, 28, 58; 13:19; 18:5]. He is stating His claim to be God.
(d) He claimed that
Prophets were persecuted because of him.
[Matthew 5:11-12] “Blessed are you
when men shall revile you and say all manner of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is
great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
Here
we have a clear claim of his divinity. It attests that the prophets and
the
disciples were/will be persecuted for the same one reason: for the his
sake. No human being could claim that the prophets of hundreds of years
earlier had been persecuted for his sake. Only a pre-existing entity
could make
such a claim—only God could make the claim.
(e) He clearly places
his pronouncements on the same level as Holy Scripture.
[Matthew 5:21-22] You have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou
shall not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the
judgment. But
I say, if you are even angry with someone, you are subject to
judgment! If you call someone an idiot, you are in danger of being brought
before the court. And if you curse someone, you are in danger of the fires of
hell.
[Matthew 5:27-28] "You have heard the commandment that says, 'You must not
commit adultery.' But I say,
anyone who even looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with
her in his heart.
[Matthew 5:43-44] "You have heard the law that says, 'Love your
neighbor' and hate your enemy. But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those
who persecute you!
Christ’s
comments on the Law attest to his divinity. ‘Thou
shall not kill,’ but I say…” or “Thou shall
not.. but I say…” Thou shall not.. but I say…
We need to consider the magnitude of these statements. Jesus is speaking to an audience that considered the Old Testament as the inspired word of God. Christ, calmly recites the Old Testament passages, and then proceeds to make statements that supersede them. He clearly places his pronouncements on the same level as Holy Scripture. Only God can do this. For even the apostle Paul never stated that “scripture says this, but what I say…”
We need to consider the magnitude of these statements. Jesus is speaking to an audience that considered the Old Testament as the inspired word of God. Christ, calmly recites the Old Testament passages, and then proceeds to make statements that supersede them. He clearly places his pronouncements on the same level as Holy Scripture. Only God can do this. For even the apostle Paul never stated that “scripture says this, but what I say…”
(f) He claimed that
he is the source of Morality
[John 15:5] I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man
remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart
from me you can do nothing.
Jesus
tells us that He is the vine, we, his disciples are the branches, and the fruit
we bear are the good works (moral conduct). Here Christ is teaching something significant:
while the branch bears fruit, the ultimate source is the vine. Which he clearly
illustrates in Matthew 5:16
[Matthew 5:16] In the same way,
let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your
Father in heaven.
(g) He bracket
himself to God the Father and to the Holy Spirit
[Matthew 28:19] Therefore go and
make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
We
know from his earlier teaching that he meant himself when he refers to “the
Son”, and here he brackets himself between the Father and the Holy Spirit. If
He were not God, then He just spoke blasphemy.
Why
didn’t Jesus make a simple declarative statement I am God? It is because for the same reason He spoke in parables [Matt.
13:10].
II. That Who Made Him God.
According
to them, Christ was not worshipped by Early Christian Communities as divine
person prior to the Council of Nicea. I repeat, prior to the Nicene Council
Christ is not God! thus during this council, through the influence of Emperor
Constantine, they made him God.
The
lack on historical facts to substantiate this conclusion makes this more sounds
funny. To answer the allegation, We must then go
back and investigate prior to Council of Nicea (or prior to 4th
Century A.D.).
On this section, I
would rather opt not to post here the accounts of some Early Church Fathers (which is obviously all were Catholics) who
lived prior to the council. So what will I cite here is an external evidence.
(a) The Megiddo Church
Among the finds is an approx.
54-square-metre (580 sq ft) large mosaic with a Greek inscription
stating that:
"The
God-loving Akeptous has offered the table to God Jesus Christ as a
memorial."
(b) The account of
Pliny the Younger
Pliny
the Younger was governor of Pontus/Bithynia from 111-113 A.D. He wrote to
Emperor Trajan regarding the early Christian church, their worship of Christ,
and how he persecuted, tortured, and murdered them:

example shows clearly that even the Romans knew that Jesus was being worshipped
and wanted to "check and cure" "the contagion of this
superstition" that had "spread not only to the cities but also to the
villages and farms."
(b) The Alexamenos graffito
The
Alexamenos graffito is an inscription carved in plaster on a wall near the
Palatine Hill in Rome
[dated early 3rd Century] The image depicts a human-like figure
attached to a cross and possessing the head of a donkey. Beneath the cross
there is a caption written in crude Greek:
Αλεξαμενος
ϲεβετε θεον. [Alexamenos,
worship God!]
During the time of Christians’ persecution, Romans accused Christian for worshipping a donkey because they believed Christ was donkey (see my article on Sign of the cross)

Inihanda muna ang Israel para sa pagdating ng Kristo, kaya ang Israel ang anino ng Simbahang darating. Ibinigay lahat ng Diyos sa Israel ngunit pagdating ng Kristo dahil sa katigasan ng ulo ng Israel ay maitatag ang Simbahan, ang Bagong Israel.

"Ang Kautusan ay malabong anino lamang at hindi ganap na larawan ng mabubuting bagay na darating." (Hebreo 10:1, Magandang Balita Biblia)
Kaya wala pa ang katolisismo noong panahon ni Abraham dahil ito ay:
"Ang mga ito'y anino lamang ng mga bagay na darating at si Cristo ang kaganapan nito." (Colossas 2:17, Magandang Balita Biblia)
Dahil si Kristo ang kaganapan ng makalumang tipan, ang Santa Iglesia Katolika naman ang kaganapan ng bayang pinili........

SOLEMNITY OF THE MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST ( CORPUS CHRISTI SUNDAY)
Corpus Christi (Body and Blood of Christ) is a Eucharistic solemnity,
or better, the solemn commemoration of the institution of that
sacrament. It is, moreover, the Church's official act of homage and
gratitude to Christ, who by instituting the Holy Eucharist gave to the
Church her greatest treasure. Holy Thursday, assuredly, marks the
anniversary of the institution, but the commemoration of the Lord's
passion that very night suppresses the rejoicing proper to the occasion.
Today's observance, therefore, accents the joyous aspect of Holy
Thursday.
The Mass and the Office for the feast was edited or

wholly in accord with the best liturgical traditions. . . It is a

In the words of St. Thomas:
"How inestimable a dignity, beloved brethren, divine bounty has bestowed upon us Christians from the treasury of its infinite goodness! For there neither is nor ever has been a people to whom the gods were so nigh as our Lord and God is nigh unto us.
"Desirous that we be made partakers of His divinity, the only-begotten Son of God has taken to Himself our nature so that having become man, He would be enabled to make men gods. Whatever He assumed of our nature He wrought unto our salvation. For on the altar of the Cross He immolated to the Father His own Body as victim for our reconciliation and shed His blood both for our ransom and for our regeneration. Moreover, in order that a remembrance of so great benefits may always be with us, He has left us His Body as food and His Blood as drink under appearances of bread and wine.
"O banquet most precious! O banquet most admirable! O banquet overflowing with every spiritual delicacy! Can anything be more excellent than this repast, in which not the flesh of goats and heifers, as of old, but Christ the true God is given us for nourishment? What more wondrous than this holy sacrament! In it bread and wine are changed substantially, and under the appearance of a little bread and wine is had Christ Jesus, God and perfect Man. In this sacrament sins are purged away, virtues are increased, the soul is satiated with an abundance of every spiritual gift. No other sacrament is so beneficial. Since it was instituted unto the salvation of all, it is offered by Holy Church for the living and for the dead, that all may share in its treasures.
"My dearly beloved, is it not beyond human power to express the ineffable delicacy of this sacrament in which spiritual sweetness is tasted in its very source, in which is brought to mind the remembrance of that all-excelling charity which Christ showed in His sacred passion? Surely it was to impress more profoundly upon the hearts of the faithful the immensity of this charity that our loving Savior instituted this sacrament at the last supper when, having celebrated the Pasch with His disciples. He was about to leave the world and return to the Father. It was to serve as an unending remembrance of His passion, as the fulfillment of ancient types — this the greatest of His miracles. To those who sorrow over His departure He has given a unique solace."
Symbols: The usual symbol for the Holy Eucharist is a chalice, with a host rising out of it.
The
chalice is shown with a hexagonal base, as a rule, symbolizing the Six
Attributes of the Deity (power, wisdom, majesty, mercy, justice and
love), and with a richly wrought stem of gold, studded with precious
stones. The host is shown as the typical circular wafer, upon which may
be imprinted the letters I. N. R. I., from which proceed rays of light,
symbolical of the Real Presence, the substantial presence of Christ
under the species of bread and wine.
An altar, upon which is set a
cross, two or more candles in their tall candlesticks, a chalice and a
ciborium, is another symbol often seen.

Ex 24:3-8
When Moses came to the people
and related all the words and ordinances of the LORD,
they all answered with one voice,
"We will do everything that the LORD has told us."
Moses then wrote down all the words of the LORD and,
rising early the next day,
he erected at the foot of the mountain an altar
and twelve pillars for the twelve tribes of Israel.
Then, having sent certain young men of the Israelites
to offer holocausts and sacrifice young bulls
as peace offerings to the LORD,
Moses took half of the blood and put it in large bowls;
the other half he splashed on the altar.
Taking the book of the covenant, he read it aloud to the people,

Brothers and sisters:
When Christ came as high priest
of the good things that have come to be,
passing through the greater and more perfect tabernacle
not made by hands, that is, not belonging to this creation,
he entered once for all into the sanctuary,
not with the blood of goats and calves
but with his own blood, thus obtaining eternal redemption.
For if the blood of goats and bulls
and the sprinkling of a heifer's ashes
can sanctify those who are defiled
so that their flesh is cleansed,
how much more will the blood of Christ,
who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God,
cleanse our consciences from dead works
to worship the living God.
For this reason he is mediator of a new covenant:
since a death has taken place for deliverance
from transgressions under the first covenant,
those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance.

"Where do you want us to go
and prepare for you to eat the Passover?"

"Go into the city and a man will meet you,
carrying a jar of water.
Follow him.
Wherever he enters, say to the master of the house,
'The Teacher says, "Where is my guest room
where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?"'
Then he will show you a large upper room furnished and ready.
Make the preparations for us there."
The disciples then went off, entered the city,
and found it just as he had told them;
and they prepared the Passover.
While they were eating,
he took bread, said the blessing,
broke it, gave it to them, and said,
"Take it; this is my body."
Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them,
and they all drank from it.
He said to them,
"This is my blood of the covenant,
which will be shed for many.
Amen, I say to you,
I shall not drink again the fruit of the vine
until the day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God."

they went out to the Mount of Olives.

hi ryan torotoro, sabi mo nag exist ang catholicism nung dumating ang sinasabi mong kristo kelan yon? granted na yon ding panahong yon itinatag ng kristo mo ang catholicism, eh pa'no naman ang panahong di pa dumating yong kristo, eh wala pa ang katoliko? just wanna ask, ano naman ang religion ng mga tao noon before dumating ang sinasabi mong kristo? kung kayo ang true bakit di kayo nag exist nong kaunaunahang panahon nila abraham?
